When I was looking for a new bench, the reviews with the pictures were very helpful, so I snapped a bunch of pics to hopefully help someone else. The bench came is a very heavy duty box, no damage. Other reviewers from the previous version had mentioned cases of mold or rust, but there was not a speck of either on my bench. All the metal parts were powder coated...no exposed metal anywhere. No rips tears or damage of any kind (I am going to use my old bench as a comparison because it is very heavy duty but lacks many of the features of this 100 Spartans bench). When you take everything out of the box, there is VERY LITTLE assembly required. You attach the rear crosspiece that are like the rear legs, you attach the dragon flag handles, and the leg support...that is it. If you want to fold this up for storage, it is basically the size of the un-assembled bench right out of the box. I assembled it in under 20 minutes, which is very easy and straightforward. To adjust the bench to a flat position, I actually had to read the manual, LOL, but once I saw how it went, it is easy to do. The whole bench is very light and as I moved it around by grabbing the front handle and rolling it around, it reminded me of running a vacuum cleaner, so moving it with one hand was not a problem. (Moving my old bench, picking it up to move it, is a workout in intself)In the flat position, there is a gap of a few inches which I understand is necessary to make room for the bench to incline. My old bench has a small removable pad (my 6th picture) that maybe the manufacturer could add as an upgrade in a future model. For now, I had an old round back pillow that shoved in there which is working just fine. You could probably also use a piece of pipe insulation to fill it, but it's not necessary. I do like the added comfort of it though.I noticed a little bit of wiggle in the back support in the upright position at first. After looking into it, the wiggle was coming from the pivot point of the backrest (my last picture). I tightened the bolts just a little and the wiggle was almost completely gone. The covering on the seat and backrest is a very nice, soft covering but I am not sure how well it will hold up over time. I would set dumbells on my old bench between sets, with the heavy Naugahyde cover, but I don't think I will do that on this new bench. I don't want to press my luck.If you are a competitive powerlifter or professional bodybuilder benching obscene amounts of weight, you may not want this bench. But for the rest of us humans, it works just fine. Not super heavy duty, but it is adequate for 95% of the population, up to it's weight capacity (which is either 600+ pounds or 800 pounds...600 pounds would be a 200 pound man benching 400 pounds, to put that in perspective). It has some nice features; lots of positions from incline to decline, wheels to move it around, foldable for storage, dragon flag handles, leg hold downs, etc. I like it a lot. I'm still keeping my old bench with this one because of some of the attachments I can use on it, and in case I ever start benching the amount of weight as I did in my younger days, but I am pretty sure those days are long gone, LOL!, This is a nice addition to my weight equipment collection and I am glad that bought it.Update 11/15/2025: Added a picture of me standing on the bench in my socks, at 180 pounds bodyweight. Not too squishy.
It is a well designed and well built bench with thick cushioned seat and back support. It is highly configurable that you can adjust both front seat and back support. Like others mentioned, it came with tools and mostly assembled. It took me less than 10 minutes to complete the assembly. At first I was confused and could not set the bench to a leveled 180 degree and thought I got a defective product. After looking at the pictures from other reviewers and looking at the back of the back support, I was able to set the bench to level as shown above. Overall, it is a high quality bench and I would recommend it to anyone who consider buying a weight bench especially those would want to go with a cheaper bench. It is worth to spend a little more to get a good bench.
For the price range, it's very sturdy for an adjustable bench. Mostly easy assembly if you read the instructions. It has a stopper on the back of the pad, which many cheaper benches don't. I had to unscrew a few bolts on mine, as they came attached but needed undone to add parts. Not a big deal. Comes with 2 little wrenches for tightening and loosening. Rides lower to the ground (~16 inches), so easy to stay tight and keep your footing. My last bench was 21 inches off the ground, and it made stability a pain.However... the biggest issue is figuring out how to make the bench flat. When freshly assembled, it rests at a small incline angle, and when the back stopper is fully lowered, it becomes a decline. The instructions are hard to decipher on how to make it flat, and you may get upset like I did, thinking it's broken or missing parts. Watch the attached video to see how it goes flat.
This is it. I've scrolled through so many junk benches that barely have the weight capacity of a wet towel. Want flat, incline, AND decline? Get outta here; then I found this. Never heard of 100 Spartans? Me neither, but who cares? I've had this for a couple of weeks of quarantine life and so far I'm impressed. I (69", 185 lbs, 42" chest, 32" waist) can actually use +100 lb dumbbells with this and not worry. It feels sturdy yet is so lightweight and easy to move around compared to benches in gyms, and this is a home bench! It is also collapsible with wheels to make for easier storage; I haven't tried storing and don't have those measurements. So what's wrong with it?-The decline may be a bit uncomfortable. In general, it's hard to find a good decline that has the right angles to hold you comfortably outside of a dedicated decline bench, so this bench meets my average expectations.-The leg piece is a bit narrow, but I can make it work. Again, this is what I expected for a home bench.-The seat adjustment looks a bit light on support, just an observation.-There is a bit of padding gap, haven't really had any interference except in decline.-My assumption (time will tell) is that since this is a tad cheaper, the padding may wear out faster.-If you like to do crazy jumping exercises or really abuse your bench overall, you might want a more commercial bench or just get a box.-If you just want flat and incline, you might be able to find more options better tailored to you.In summary, I don't know where you can beat a deal like this. It's like this was designed by someone that actually works out and knows what people want. The price, I can't believe the price. There are worse benches on the market that give you way less for about the same price or more. You want something better than this? Be ready to shell out some dough, or start searching for used gym items. The next best product I saw was about $500-600 and then it was around $1000 for familiar names like hammer strength and rogue.Experience: Been lifting for 18 years and have 9 years of being spoiled by military gyms.
What I liked/loved:It's very well made. The back portion which controls incline/decline seems very stable. The rod is thick, and the latches it falls into do not leave ANY room for slipping during load which gives me a peace of mind. The chair also arrived 90% assembled, and everything was really intuitive to put together. The diagram basically explained/showed everything. They even include real tools (an actual wrench) which I thought was pretty cool.Overall it looks very well made, the paint looks solid, the stitching looks solid, and it doesn't look like they cut many corners (maybe some plastic pieces but whatever) in construction.I have one small issue, and one slightly larger one. The small issue is that it was shipped via USPS, which did not bring it to my 3rd floor apartment, it said "deliver attempted" but I googled online and in some complexes they don't even try. So during a pandemic, when I ordered online, I had to go to the post office to pick it up in person...was kinda annoyed by that, but that's at least on part on USPS.The second, and arguably more relevant matter to the product, is that the front legs are incredibly narrow. If used correctly it will pose no problems...but I know on larger benches I've pushed myself with larger weights to the point of failure, and one arm starts to drop, sorta tilting me. I worry in that scenario the chair may tilt, though to be fair it's less likely because the rear legs are adequately wide...the front legs really should be a few inches wider imo. With ALL THIS SAID, I am very happy with the product. I would recommend them to others. I would rate this 4.5 stars if I could, but I am not going to round that down to 4 in light of all the other things that this chair excels it. If I were grading it, I'd give it an A- .....really good for the price, and I did a fair bit of research before ordering, so I'm not sure what I could have gotten that looked more stable/better made. Everything more stable was substantially more expensive (Like $300-500) OR it was the same price and it looked really poorly made.If you're on the fence, and you have a limited budget, I think this gives you a lot of bang for your buck...just...exercise caution.
